Cape Breton Oatcakes

1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
-> Mix together

Put 3tbs of boiling water in a cup. Add 1/2 tsp baking soda. Add to above mixture. Beat well.

1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/4 tsp salt

Combine and roll out on a floured surface. Cut into squares (or circles using a glass like my grandmother did or using a tin can like at my uncle’s restaurant). Bake @ 375°F for 6 minutes.
